在中国科学院合肥物质科学研究院等离子体物理研究所的控制大厅,屏幕上的曲线记录着近亿摄氏度等离子体的脉动。我们作为科研人员,常常要在凌晨守着操作台,看着设备运行。束流瞬间点亮、磁约束逐步稳定——我们正在探索聚变能源。

In the control room of the Plasma Physics Institute of Hefei Institute of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the curves on the screen record the pulsations of the plasma at nearly 100 million degrees Celsius. As researchers, we often stay at the operation console at night, watching the equipment run. The beam instantly lights up, and the magnetic confinement gradually stabilizes - we are exploring fusion energy.


“人造太阳”,旨在实现可控核聚变。依靠三大关键装置平台,我们正一步一个脚印,前行在可控核聚变研究科学探索与工程实现的道路上。随着一次次攻坚、一个个突破,我愈发笃信,“人造太阳”并非遥远的浪漫,而是渐行渐近的现实。

"The Artificial Sun" aims to achieve controlled nuclear fusion. Relying on three key device platforms, we are making steady progress on the path of scientific exploration and engineering implementation of controlled nuclear fusion research. With each breakthrough and every achievement, I am increasingly convinced that the "Artificial Sun" is not a distant fantasy but a tangible reality that is getting closer.


科学的浪漫,需要理性的认知与坚持。造“太阳”的第一步,是造一个强大的容器,能够承载超高温和超低温,受得了“一米之外,冰火两重天”,让等离子体稳态运行并产生核反应。造“太阳”这条无人之路的开端,就荆棘遍布。没有超导材料、没有经验可循、没有标准可依,超大电流、超强磁场、超高真空成为“卡脖子”难题,让人看不清前路。没有路,就用自己的脚印走成路。19年超过15万次放电,如今的全超导托卡马克核聚变实验装置(EAST)能够在1亿摄氏度实现1066秒稳态运行,比太阳更炙热。这份炙热,源自数十年的科研热情、四代人的薪火相传。

The romance of science requires rational cognition and perseverance. The first step in creating a "sun" is to build a powerful container that can withstand extremely high and low temperatures, capable of experiencing "two completely different states - ice and fire" one meter away, allowing plasma to operate in a steady state and generate nuclear reactions. The beginning of this uncharted path of creating a "sun" is fraught with obstacles. Without superconducting materials, without precedents to follow, and without standards to refer to, huge currents, extremely strong magnetic fields, and ultra-high vacuum have become "deadlock" problems, making it difficult to see the way forward. Without a path, one must use one's own footprints to create a path.


有些梦想看似遥不可及,耐下心,便会一点点实现。聚变堆主机关键系统综合研究设施(CRAFT)就是这样一个工具台,将聚变堆的所有关键部件拆解为可以逐一攻破的独立任务。从偏滤器到超导磁体,从八分之一真空室到遥操作,每一套系统都要经过严苛的测试与反复优化。今年,CRAFT数个关键子系统取得重要进展,造“太阳”有了工程“指导手册”。挑战极限是对技术的锤炼,也是对耐心的磨炼。千锤百炼,便不畏路途之远。

Some dreams may seem out of reach, but if you persevere, they will gradually come true. The Fusion Reactor Mainframe Key System Integrated Research Facility (CRAFT) is such a tool. It disassembles all the key components of the fusion reactor into independent tasks that can be tackled one by one. From the divertor to the superconducting magnets, from one-eighth of the vacuum chamber to remote operation, each system must undergo rigorous testing and repeated optimization. This year, several key subsystems of CRAFT have made significant progress, providing an engineering "instruction manual" for building "the sun". Challenging the limits is both the refinement of technology and the tempering of patience. Through countless trials and errors, one becomes fearless of the long journey.


让“太阳”之光照亮现实,还需合力托举。紧凑型聚变能实验装置(BEST)就是这样一个着力点。前不久,燃烧等离子体国际科学计划项目在合肥正式启动,BEST的全球研究计划也同步发布。来自10多个国家的科学家共同签署《合肥聚变宣言》,呼吁全球一起造“太阳”。如今各种新技术加速研究,各国围绕科技“赛点”争分夺秒、你追我赶。但也要看到,科技这把开启人类未来的钥匙,也需要全人类各展所能、共同铸造。“筑墙”“圈地”无益,携手共进才能加速“人造太阳”的突破。

Let the light of the "Sun" illuminate reality, and we need to work together to support it. The Compact Fusion Test Facility (BEST) is such a focus point. Not long ago, the International Science Project on Burning Plasmas was officially launched in Hefei, and the global research plan of BEST was also released simultaneously. Scientists from 10 different countries jointly signed the "Hefei Fusion Declaration", calling on the world to build "the Sun". Nowadays, various new technologies are accelerating research, and countries are competing against each other at the "technology competition points" to seize time and catch up. However, we should also recognize that this key to unlocking humanity's future, which is technology, also requires all of humanity to showcase their capabilities and jointly forge it. "Building walls" and "separating land" are of no benefit. Only by working together can we accelerate the breakthrough of "the artificial Sun".


从EAST到CRAFT再到BEST,体现着我国推进科技创新的矢志不渝。从理论探索到实验验证,从工程设计到系统集成,“一代人干不完,就由下一代接着干”,我们的步履扎实坚定,科学家精神薪火相传。如今,造“太阳”成为更加开放的机遇,中国的接力也拓展为全世界希望“火种”的传递。人类多么奇妙啊,在浩瀚宇宙中那么渺小,却有着敢与自然比肩的精神力量。

From EAST to CRAFT and then to BEST, this reflects China's unwavering commitment to promoting scientific innovation. From theoretical exploration to experimental verification, from engineering design to system integration, "If one generation cannot complete it, the next one will take over", our steps are solid and firm, and the spirit of scientists has been passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays, building "the sun" has become a more open opportunity, and China's relay has expanded into the global transmission of the hope for "the spark". How wonderful humanity is! In the vast universe, we are so insignificant, yet we possess the spiritual strength to dare to compete with nature.


造“太阳”,以一次次试验、一个个飞跃,丈量着理想的高度。这条道路上,我们有信心,通过更久的坚守、更好的传承,让我们的“太阳”经久燃烧,照亮全人类的光明前程。

Creating "the sun", through numerous experiments and successive leaps, we measure the height of our ideals. On this path, we have confidence that through longer perseverance and better inheritance, our "sun" will burn brightly for a long time, illuminating the bright future of all mankind.
